Singin' In the Rain

Just re-posting this blog post I just put up on The North Face blog;

Sure, it rains a good bit here in Seattle… I won’t deny the stereotype. Prior to having twin girls, I found I’d often time my run departure times based on whenever the next sun break happened to appear. However, with twin girls the schedule quickly becomes king, and if it’s the chunk of time for running with the girls, we’re going- rain or shine.

ST 7

The girls have come to absolutely love their daily run(s) with Daddy, and I likewise. The outside air calms them and all the lovely smells and sounds of the outdoors give them great delight. Even the raindrops on their stroller cover seem to put them right to sleep. When it’s time to go, I look out the window and if it’s raining, I toss on a light rain jacket, slip the rain cover on the stroller down and make sure the girls are cozy, and we’re off. (If it’s not raining, I’ll toss a light jacket in the stroller pocket just in case… as they say in Seattle, “if it’s not raining now, just wait.”)

Our girls are only about 4 months old at this point, but it’s been a joy to see their love for the outdoors grow in just this short time of life so far. I know there will be many adventures to come in the near future (like this summer!), but for now our main adventures consist of running time with dad. And if for some reason the girls are a little fussy, then I’ll sing a little Old McDonald as we run, and then we’re always good to go.

Ultimate Momma

The weather's been unseasonably chilly in Seattle for the past week or so, but that didn't stop us from going out to cheer for Mommy at her ultimate frisbee game yesterday. The sun poked through the clouds and the girls had a fantastic time playing on their little sleeping pad and kicking their legs and arms to cheer.
It was a great weekend, and the girls love having mommy back home to snuggle all day. Here we go into another exciting week to come! (Katherine on the right, Annabelle on the left)

Friday Zoo Trip

The girls and I have had a great first week flying solo, and Mommy had fun being back at work again too. We've been running everyday and getting outside a lot. Today after seeing a fun gorilla story on the news (video below), the girls begged for a zoo trip, so daddy obliged and we had a great quick trip to see the gorillas (and the wild peacock...). We're all excited for lots of family time this weekend!

Here we go

Kirsten officially returned to work full-time yesterday, which means I've now started in full-time as stay at home Dad. The girls definitely miss Mommy and Mommy is certainly missing seeing the girls all day too, but we're all doing pretty well.
Katherine is officially sleeping through the night now, which is pretty amazing, and boy are we grateful! Annabelle isn't too far behind, but is still getting to have one small middle of the night feed.
We had some great adventures last week including a few days staying at a friend's beach house on Whidbey Island. We also made it to the zoo for the first time with the girls. We immediately bought a membership, so we'll definitely be going back frequently. The girls seemed to like the zoo I guess, though they slept right through this visit. After a lovely run this morning, we'll maybe head to the library for some stories this afternoon.
